Harris is turning to video games and sports betting to try and win back some of the ‘bro’ vote from Trump

Kamala Harris is strategically targeting the male vote, often referred to as the “bro” vote, by placing advertisements on video game and sports betting websites in an attempt to sway supporters away from Donald Trump’s camp, as he holds a lead in polls among men.

According to NBC News, Harris’ campaign is breaking ground by being the first to advertise on DraftKings, a popular sports betting company, as well as on Yahoo Sports. Additional adverts are set to appear on video game sites such as IGN and Fandom. Notably, these ads will feature well-known figures like NBA legend Magic Johnson and actor Ben Stiller, advocating for Harris and criticising Trump’s policies.

The gender gap in voter preferences between Trump and Harris is stark in national polls, with women showing a preference for Harris and men leaning towards Trump. Swing states like Georgia highlight this divide, where Harris leads by 12 points among women, while Trump leads by 14 points among men, as analysed by The Independent. However, in states like Arizona, this divide is not as significant.

While Harris is intensifying her outreach efforts, Trump is actively engaging with the younger male demographic, particularly targeting 18 to 29-year-olds through influencers like Logan Paul and podcaster Theo Von. Trump’s appearances on platforms such as podcasts and YouTube channels demonstrate his focus on appealing to this specific demographic.

As the 2024 US presidential election approaches, both candidates are making strategic moves to secure crucial voter support. Harris’ targeted approach towards the male demographic through popular online platforms like video games and sports betting sites is a notable effort to sway undecided voters and counter Trump’s current lead among men in polls.
