A drone attack has been launched towards the private residence of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the coastal town of Caesarea, according to the Israeli government. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported as neither the Prime Minister nor his wife were at home during the incident, as confirmed by his spokesperson.
This attack comes amidst escalating tensions as over 50 people in Gaza, including children, were killed in a series of Israeli strikes within a span of less than 24 hours, as reported by hospital officials. Sirens were heard on Saturday morning in Israel, alerting residents of incoming fire from Lebanon, including a drone aimed at Mr Netanyahu’s house, Israeli government authorities revealed.
The situation in Gaza further deteriorated as more strikes hit various locations. The Palestinian Health Ministry disclosed that Israeli strikes targeted the upper floors of the Indonesian Hospital in Beit Lahiya, causing panic among patients and medical staff. In Jabaliya, strikes on Al-Awda hospital injured numerous staff members. Tragically, three houses in Jabaliya were struck, resulting in the loss of at least 30 lives, with over 80 people sustaining injuries.
The conflict has ravaged Gaza, displacing around 90% of its 2.3 million population, leaving them in dire need of essentials like food, water, medicine, and fuel. In response, Israel’s military reported that 55 projectiles were fired from Lebanon towards northern Israel on Saturday morning, resulting in injuries and fatalities.
Against this backdrop, Israel’s war with Hezbollah in Lebanon, a Hamas ally backed by Iran, has intensified. Notably, Hezbollah announced plans to escalate the conflict by launching guided missiles and drones into Israel. The situation escalated further as Israel reportedly killed Hezbollah’s deputy commander in Bint Jbeil. In a separate incident, an Israeli airstrike in Lebanon resulted in the deaths of two individuals in a vehicle.
In Gaza, a standoff between Israel and Hamas ensued following the death of Hamas’ leader, Yahya Sinwar. Hamas has signalled resistance to a ceasefire until its demands are met, which includes the release of hostages taken from Israel a year ago. The conflict has led to significant casualties on both sides, with thousands of lives lost and many more injured.
