Glenn Close is to be honoured with the Movies for Grownups career achievement award by AARP, The Magazine. The 77-year-old actress is well-known for her roles in iconic films such as “Fatal Attraction,” “101 Dalmatians,” and “The Wife” during her impressive nearly 50-year career in Hollywood. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place in January at the AARP’s annual Movies for Grownups Awards ceremony.
Expressing her gratitude for the honour, Glenn Close stated, “I am so honoured to receive the AARP Movies for Grownups Career Achievement Award even though I feel like I’m still 35, if not younger. I love making movies for grownups and everyone else, and I deeply appreciate the inspiration and support of the people I have worked with over 50 years. Thank you, AARP, for this great honour.”
The AARP initiated the Movies for Grownups programme in 2002 to champion audiences aged over 50 and combat ageism in the film industry. The ceremony, which celebrates movies “for grownups, by grownups,” is set to be held in Beverly Hills, California on January 11, with Alan Cumming confirmed as the host. The event will be broadcast by “Great Performances” on Sunday, February 23, at 7 p.m. Eastern on PBS.
Martha Boudreau, AARP’s executive vice president and chief communications and marketing officer, praised Glenn Close for her outstanding contributions to the industry and consistent performances even in her septuagenarian years.
