Elon Musk’s Starlink Wifi Debuts on Qatar Airways Boeing 777
In a groundbreaking move, Qatar Airways has introduced free high-speed internet for its passengers through a partnership with Elon Musk’s Starlink. The collaboration saw the launch of the first Starlink-equipped Boeing 777 on a recent flight from Doha to London.
Starlink, developed and operated by Musk’s SpaceX, utilises around 6,000 advanced satellites to provide high-speed, low-latency internet globally, even at altitudes of 35,000 feet. Qatar Airways is leading the way in the Middle East by offering Starlink to passengers, ensuring seamless internet connectivity “from gate to gate”.
Passengers on select Qatar Airways routes will now have access to the new Starlink-connected aircraft, with plans to equip 12 Boeing 777-300s with the internet service by the end of 2024. Looking ahead, the airline aims to extend this technology to its entire Boeing 777 fleet and Airbus A350 fleet by 2025.

To mark the departure of Qatar Airways’ inaugural Starlink-equipped commercial flight, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk virtually joined Mr Al Meer in the cabin via video call, emphasising the capability of the “fastest WiFi in the sky” and hinting at further improvements in the future.
