Teenager dies after utility vehicle driven by 8-year-old veers off-road

A tragic incident occurred in Hawaii where a teenager lost their life after a utility vehicle, driven by an eight-year-old, veered off the road. Maxim Beregovoy, who was 13 years old, was a passenger in an orange Kubota RTV X900 buggy when the younger driver lost control, hitting a rock embankment which caused the vehicle to overturn, as reported by the Hawaii Police Department.

The accident took place on the 72-1000 block of Puukala Road in North Kona at approximately 5.45pm on Tuesday. Beregovoy was ejected from his car seat during the collision and suffered fatal injuries. He was rushed to Kona Community Hospital but was pronounced dead at 7pm.

The eight-year-old driver sustained minor injuries that were not life-threatening and was treated at the scene before being released. The boys’ father, Eugene Beregovoy, expressed disbelief over the incident, stating that his older son was teaching his younger sibling how to operate the vehicle.

Maxim Beregovoy was described as a sweet, caring, and intelligent boy with a bright future ahead of him. He had a passion for exploring the outdoors, conducting science experiments, and engaging in projects that allowed him to learn and satisfy his curiosity. His family, consisting of four boys and three girls, is devastated by his untimely death at the age of 13.

This tragedy marks the 25th traffic fatality in the region this year, prompting a thorough investigation by the Area II Traffic Enforcement Unit.
