New Creative Hub, The Art Cabin, Unveiled in Dumfriesshire
A new creative hub has officially launched in the north-west Dumfries community, bringing together artists, makers, and creatives for a range of activities. The Art Cabin, located on Dunlop Road, Lochside, has been transformed from a portable building and is a collaborative effort between LIFT D&G and Dumfries’ The Stove. This hub, at the heart of creativity in DG2, will offer a variety of creative workshops for all ages conducted by professional artists. The hub will also feature the NANA gardening project, skills development sessions, and community consultations.
Angela Gilmour, the managing director of LIFT D&G, expressed excitement about the positive impact this creative space will have on the community and highlighted the inclusive and welcoming nature of the hub. In addition to LIFT’s activities, local artists Alice Francis and Rosie Giblin launched ArtLab, a year-long initiative funded by Creative Scotland. The project has garnered support from various sources, including Wheatley Homes South and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, which aims to enhance pride in place and improve life opportunities across the UK.
The community launch event was a success, with activities such as art-making, pizza making, community planting, and bicycle-powered smoothies and music.
