Scots eco-friendly farm linked to Rabbie Burns creates ‘zero waste’ chocolate milk

Mossgiel Farm in Ayrshire, linked to Rabbie Burns, has recently introduced a revolutionary “zero-waste” chocolate milk product. The eco-friendly farm, renowned for its organic dairy products, has launched this unique chocolate milk, claiming it to be the most natural option available. The chocolate milk is crafted from waste cocoa husks obtained from artisanal chocolatier Bare Bones, with TV chef Rick Stein praising their chocolate as the best he has ever tasted.

Previously recognised for becoming the first dairy farm in the UK to eliminate single-use plastics by switching to reusable glass bottles, Mossgiel Farm continues to lead in sustainable farming practices. With Bryce Cunningham at the helm, the farm has also transitioned to electric delivery vans and utilises biomass for heating.

Located in Ayrshire, where Robert Burns famously farmed in the 18th century, Mossgiel Farm is delving into new territory with its chocolate milk innovation. Cunningham, reflecting on the challenges faced by the dairy industry, highlights the importance of creating a high-quality, natural product without unnecessary additives. The farm’s commitment to sustainability is evident in their creative use of waste materials to produce a fresh and eco-friendly drink.

Utilising a unique brewing method, the cocoa husks are blended with Mossgiel’s organic milk and raw organic sugar, resulting in a product to be named “Brown Cow Milk.” Cunningham’s inspiration for this product stems from childhood tales about the origin of chocolate milk, incorporating a touch of whimsy while promoting sustainable practices.

By repurposing waste materials into a delectable beverage, Mossgiel Farm sets a new standard for environmentally conscious dairy production. With a focus on quality, sustainability, and innovation, the farm continues to honour its heritage while forging a path towards a greener future.
