Festive cheer is on its way to South Lanarkshire as the Christmas switch-on events have been revealed. The countdown to Christmas has officially begun, with various towns across South Lanarkshire gearing up for festive celebrations with the switching on of Christmas lights. The first council-run event is set to take place in Lanark on Saturday, November 16, with the lights illuminating at 5pm. Following Lanark, East Kilbride Village will have its turn on Sunday, November 17, also at 5pm. Rutherglen will follow suit on Saturday, November 23 at 4.30pm, while Hamilton’s Quarry Street will light up on the same day from 10am to 5.30pm, featuring a market, a visit from Santa, and a Christmas parade.
On Sunday, November 24, Cambuslang will join in the festive spirit at 4.30pm, and Carluke will wrap up the Christmas switch-ons on Saturday, November 30 at 5pm. Various musical performances are set to entertain the crowds at each event, with MacBusted and The MacDonald Bros scheduled to perform across different locations. Families can also enjoy Soundsational Choir, street entertainers, and kids’ characters at all council-run events. Heart FM’s Des Clarke will host most of the events, except for the East Kilbride event which will be hosted by Ali Wright from Clyde 1. Provost Margaret Cooper or Depute Provost Bert Thomson, along with specially invited guests, will be on stage for the official lighting of the Christmas lights.
Provost Cooper shared her excitement, stating, “I hope as many people as possible come along to enjoy a bit of Christmas cheer. The Christmas lights always help people get in the mood for festive fun, and I am sure everyone will have a great time at the switch-on events.”
