A recent fly-tipping hotspot in Craigneuk has been successfully cleared by the council after large amounts of rubbish were dumped at the site. The lane in Craigneuk, situated between Glencleland Road and Flaxmill Avenue with a stretch backing onto Glencairn Avenue, was found with significant quantities of used materials left throughout. Councillor Nathan Wilson raised the issue with North Lanarkshire’s Environment Service and called for the site to be cleared.
Following the report, a council visit led to the removal of items like fridges, blinds, wood, a mattress, and carpet from the area accessed from Meadowhead Road. However, upon inspection by Councillor Wilson, it was discovered that the section near Glencleland Road had not been cleared, with dumped materials still present. Metal objects, a tyre, discarded children’s play equipment, toddlers’ car seats, and litter were among the items removed from this area.
Councillor Wilson expressed his concerns, stating that fly-tipping is unacceptable and that the dumping of materials in public places cannot be justified. He highlighted the persistent issue of fly-tipping in Craigneuk and emphasized the need for proper clean-up efforts. After raising the matter with the council again, a further clean-up was arranged promptly to clear the remaining fly-tipped materials at the Glencleland Road end of the lane.
The councillor commended the Environment Service for their swift action in addressing the fly-tipping issue, leading to a much-improved condition of the lane. The successful clearance of the site signifies progress in maintaining a clean and safe environment for the Craigneuk community.
