A man has been left in hospital and a teenager injured following a brutal dog attack in Sheffield. The jaw-dropping moment was captured on CCTV and shows the man pulled to the floor and savaged by what appears to be a Mastiff and Cane Corso before he was rushed to hospital and operated on.
The incident left the victim with deep gashes and cuts across his body as the dogs ripped into him. He was later admitted to hospital and kept in for two days. The horror attack broke out when the dogs escaped a house on the street in Manor Top, Sheffield. The man was attempting to get the dogs on leads, when it got caught on one of the animal’s legs, causing both to lash out.
Footage of the man being mauled in the street on Sunday was released by the police to underscore the danger dogs can pose to owners and the public. Luckily for the man, his 14-year-old neighbour spotted the incident and ran to his aid. The pair were injured in the attack, with the dogs’ owner rushed to hospital for surgery.
South Yorkshire Police confirmed that the owner of the dogs remained in the hospital. One of the dogs was subsequently tied to a lamppost, while the second was unleashed, posing a serious danger to members of the public. Police managed to capture the Mastiff but had to humanely destroy it as they were unable to control it.
Officers arrested a 21-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman on suspicion of possessing a dangerously out-of-control dog. The 21-year-old was also arrested for obstructing an officer. Both individuals have been released on bail. Chief Inspector Emma Cheney of South Yorkshire Police’s lead for dangerous dogs urged dog owners to take responsibility and ensure the safety of others.
