Dumfriesshire Schoolchildren Get Active for a Good Cause
Pupils at Calside Primary School in Dumfries and Galloway recently had an exciting visit from the TV idol Gladiator Steel as part of their fundraising efforts for BBC Children in Need. Gladiator Steel, known for inspiring people to get active and move like a Gladiator, embarked on a week-long schools tour across the UK, with Calside Primary being one of the lucky schools on his itinerary.
The Dumfries children had participated in a competition to win the visit from Gladiator Steel by signing up for a free schools fundraising pack, which provided guidance on how students, parents, and staff could join forces to raise funds for BBC Children in Need. During his visit, Steel met with each class, encouraging the young fundraisers and leading them in a Movement and Motivation Masterclass.
In the workshop, the children had the chance to challenge Gladiator Steel in a fitness battle, competing to see who could complete the most star jumps in a minute. Steel also motivated the pupils to embrace confidence like a gladiator and to identify their own unique superpowers, such as kindness, good listening skills, or helping others.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the visit, Steel shared, “I was thrilled to be able to meet all the brilliant children and faculty at Calside Primary School in Dumfries to challenge them all to move like a Gladiator in our Movement and Motivation Masterclass.
