Falkirk Beer Hall Rock Bottom Secures License for Potential Christmas Opening
A new craft beer taproom named Rock Bottom is set to open in Falkirk as soon as all outstanding work is completed and a building warrant is granted. The venue will be located in Unit 5, The Arcade, Callendar Riggs, which is part of the old bus station in the town. The director of the company, Andrej Rafaj, requested an occasional license from Falkirk Council’s licensing board, stressing that opening before Christmas is crucial for the business’s survival due to low sales in January for the hospitality industry.
Andrej Rafaj, who is also the owner of the award-winning craft beer business, Not That California Brewing Company, aims to transform the new venue into a community beer hall that will host a variety of events like concerts, comedy, theatre, and open mic nights. To kickstart the project, a successful crowdfunding campaign raised nearly £12,000 in just 17 days back in July. However, delays in the project’s progress made obtaining the license before Christmas a race against time.
The licensing committee expressed their support for the application, with Provost Robert Bissett commending the initiative to utilize a previously unused space for a new business. The venue will initially have limited capacity due to the number of toilets available, and it plans to primarily serve Scottish craft beers while allowing food delivery or consumption from local restaurants. Children will not be permitted on the premises initially, but there are future plans to host child-friendly shows.
The trading hours will be from noon to midnight, with off-sales permitted from noon until 10 pm daily. Despite some delays and challenges, the licensing application with conditions was approved unanimously by the board, with Provost Bissett extending well wishes to the business for its upcoming opening.
