The Well Foundation, a volunteer-led organisation based in Bellshill, has been recognised for its exceptional contributions by being awarded The King’s Award for Voluntary Service, the UK’s highest honour for volunteer groups, equivalent to an MBE. Established in 2008, The Well Foundation has been dedicated to supporting marginalised individuals and communities through a range of initiatives in sports, culture, and social support. Initially founded as a water charity focusing on delivering clean drinking water and sanitation globally, the Foundation has expanded its mission over the years to cater to local communities as well.
With a strong commitment to making a difference, The Well Foundation runs eight football teams and offers crucial mental health support to those in need. This year, The Well Foundation joins a select group of charitable organisations and volunteer groups across the UK to receive the prestigious King’s Award for Voluntary Service. The King’s Award for Voluntary Service was established in 2002 to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee and continues under the patronage of His Majesty The King. The recipients of the award were announced on The King’s Birthday, 14th November. Representatives from The Well Foundation will have the honour of receiving the award crystal and certificate from the Lord-Lieutenant of Lanarkshire, Lady Haughey CBE. Two volunteers from the organisation will also be invited to attend a royal garden party at Holyrood House in July 2025.
