**Scots Father Deals with Daily Rat Infestation in Home**
A Glasgow father, Craig Lawrie, is facing dire living conditions as his home has been overwhelmed with a rat infestation. Lawrie, 42, reports catching up to two rats a day for the past month, despite his continuous complaints to his housing provider, Tollcross Housing Association, and interventions by environmental health officers. The rats are infiltrating his home through gaps in the gas pipes and behind kitchen cabinets. Lawrie, who resides in Lilybank in Glasgow, expressed his frustration by stating, “I can’t keep living like this; it’s horrendous. I can’t even have my son over at my place because of the problem.”
Lawrie first noticed the rats earlier this year, and despite workmen setting multiple traps and using sprays, the problem persists. Due to his disability (he has no left hand) and financial situation (living off Universal Credit), he is personally disposing of dead rats almost every day. Lawrie expressed his disappointment in the housing association’s lack of swift action, mentioning that all they have done so far is spread some foam around his cabinets, which hasn’t deterred the rats from entering.
Environmental health officers added traps in Lawrie’s kitchen, but new rats continue to appear daily, causing distress not only for Lawrie but also for his pets. Lawrie emphasized the constant fear he lives under, with the thought of rats always lurking in his home. He is urging the housing association to take more effective measures, such as removing the kitchen cupboards to block entry points for the rats.
Despite Lawrie’s pleas for help, he feels that the housing association is indifferent to the challenging living conditions he is enduring. Tollcross Housing Association responded by stating that their pest control policy involves collaboration with Glasgow City Council and the affected tenant.
