Gatehouse SWI members were treated to a delightful evening by local quilter Elaine Milven at their most recent meeting. Elaine, a member of both the Quilters of Shambellie House and Machars Quilters, entertained the group with her fascinating background and quilting journey. As a retired police officer, Elaine shared that she not only enters her quilts in national and international competitions but also creates quilts for a variety of charitable causes, such as for cancer patients and the elderly.
During the meeting, President Margaret welcomed Elaine and highlighted her impressive quilting skills and contributions to the community. Elaine showcased many of her intricate quilts, some of which were inspired by her recent holiday to South Africa. Members had the opportunity to appreciate the detailed work that goes into each quilt, with some taking years to complete.
In addition to Elaine’s presentation, the meeting also included the AGM proceedings, where upcoming events like the quilt exhibition at Shambellie House were discussed. The evening concluded with competition results, recognising members’ achievements in various categories like mince pies, patchwork articles, and flowers of the month.
The gathering ended on a high note, with Margaret expressing gratitude to Elaine for her engaging talk and to other members for their contributions. The festive spirit filled the air as plans for Christmas lunch and a Christmas quiz were announced, bringing the community together in the spirit of creativity and camaraderie.
