A group of 16 Scottish women, ranging in age from 50 to 80, faced a harrowing ordeal when they became stranded in the snow during Storm Bert before being rescued by selfless strangers. The pensioners, who were on their way to celebrate a birthday in Pitlochry, found themselves stuck on Queensferry Road after their travel plans were disrupted by the severe weather conditions.
The group had boarded a coach from St Andrew’s Square in Edinburgh, but due to heavy traffic and poor road conditions, the journey to Queensferry Road, a mere 3.5 miles away, took over two hours. When the bus driver announced that the coach could only go as far as Perth due to the snow, the women decided to disembark. However, they were faced with the challenge of navigating the steep Corstorphine Hill, with some members of the group having limited mobility.
Margo Blyth, one of the stranded women, described the situation as potentially disastrous but was amazed by the kindness shown by strangers who came to their aid. Residents passing by noticed the women struggling in the snow and stopped to help. One kind-hearted individual named Michael stopped his car and offered to shuttle the women to safety at the Leonardo Hotel Edinburgh Murrayfield on Clermiston Road.

Despite the hotel being fully booked, the staff went above and beyond to accommodate the elderly group, providing them with a room and even bringing out Prosecco to celebrate the birthday occasion, all free of charge.
