A drug dealer has been sentenced to 16 months in prison after police discovered cocaine valued at £10,000 in an East Kilbride hotel room. Kyle McCulloch, a 21-year-old from Eaglesham, pled guilty to being involved in distributing the Class A drug during a hearing at Hamilton Sheriff Court. Also appearing in court was Yusef Khan, 22, who admitted to the same charge. The seizure of the cocaine took place on June 1 last year at Premier Inn, Lees Burn Court.
Prosecutor Aga Mathieson informed the court that McCulloch had checked into the hotel as a guest around 3.15 pm, prompting staff to raise concerns about the number of people visiting his room. The police were then called, leading to the discovery of a large bag containing 189 small bags of cocaine, each weighing 0.3g. Additionally, five bags, each holding 25g of cocaine, were found hidden inside a kettle. Khan’s involvement with the drugs was established through his fingerprints.
McCulloch had a prior conviction for drug dealing as well as two convictions for drug possession. In contrast, Khan, residing in Newton Mearns, had no previous drug-related offences on his record. Sheriff John Hamilton sentenced Khan to 18 months of social work supervision and 300 hours of community service. He was also placed under an electronic tagging order, restricting his movements between 8pm and 6am for six months.
