Dumfries and Galloway’s top brass win big at competition – Daily Record
Annan Town Band from Dumfries and Galloway impressed judges and audiences alike at the Scottish Borders Brass Band Association Entertainment Contest in Innerleithen. The talented musicians showcased their programme, Origins, featuring a mix of classical and modern pieces. Among the highlights was a rendition of the 19th Century Russian folk tune, Korobeiniki, known as the theme tune for the popular 1980s video game, Tetris. Musical director Andrew Warriner led the band in a captivating performance that stood out among 14 other competing bands.
The success didn’t stop there for Annan Town Band. In addition to winning the overall contest, they also triumphed in multiple categories. Jamie Bryden, the principal euphonium player, was recognised as the best instrumentalist. The band scooped up awards for Best Bass Section and Best 2nd Section Band, marking a triumphant end to their competition season.
