A young mother was viciously attacked and stabbed more than 45 times by a cocaine-fuelled assailant in what was described as a “vicious and frenzied” assault. The incident took place in West Calder, West Lothian, when Michael Porchetta, 28, attacked Aimee Cannon, 26, after she had rejected his advances, insisting they were just friends. Aimee’s father found her lifeless body the following day in her home. Porchetta, who was deemed unfit to stand trial for murder, faced an examination of facts to determine his mental state at the time of the attack.
At the High Court in Glasgow, Lord Mulholland concluded that Porchetta was responsible for the brutal attack on Aimee. Porchetta, currently detained at the State Hospital at Carstairs, will undergo psychiatric evaluations before the case resumes in the New Year.
