You can cut cancer risk by exercising at specific time of day, study says

Exercise at specific times of the day can help reduce the risk of cancer, a recent study suggests. According to research, there are two ‘golden hours’ when physical activity can have the most significant impact on cancer prevention.

The study, involving 2,800 participants, discovered that engaging in activities such as running and cycling between 8 and 10 am can lead to a lower likelihood of developing prostate or breast tumours. The benefits of morning exercise were particularly notable for individuals who tend to stay up late.

Dr. Manolis Kogevinas, the study’s co-ordinator from the Barcelona Institute for Global Health, explained that the timing of physical activity influences the body’s hormone levels, metabolism, and circadian rhythm. Melatonin, a hormone produced during the night, plays a crucial role in regulating sleep and has anti-cancer properties. Working out late at night can disrupt melatonin production, potentially increasing cancer risk.

The findings suggest that regular physical activity, especially in the morning, can help align the body’s internal clock and reduce the risk of cancer. The study emphasises the importance of moderate physical activity for at least 150 minutes per week in cancer prevention.

The research is published in the International Journal of Cancer and offers new insights into the relationship between exercise timing and cancer risk. By understanding the optimal times for physical activity, individuals can make simple lifestyle changes to potentially reduce their chances of developing cancer.

In conclusion, the study highlights the significant impact of morning exercise in lowering cancer risk. By aligning physical activity with the body’s natural rhythms, individuals can potentially enhance their overall health and well-being. Incorporating regular exercise into daily routines, especially during the morning hours, may offer substantial benefits in cancer prevention and overall wellness.
