A new adoption service launched by the leading children and young person’s charity, Kibble, is set to benefit babies and children from South Lanarkshire who are up for adoption. The innovative service is designed to work nationwide and in collaboration with local authorities and other adoption agencies to connect adopters with children seeking their forever homes. This initiative aims to modernize and streamline the adoption process for the benefit of both children and adopters.
The new adoption service will complement Kibble’s existing range of trauma-informed care and support, which includes fostering, residential care, education, and specialist therapeutic services. Noteworthy is Kibble’s commitment to offering lifelong access to its services for adopters and adopted children, providing access to therapists, psychologists, and other industry-leading experts within the charity’s network.
Paula Harkins, leading the Kibble Adoption service, expressed the significance of this launch in expanding Kibble’s dedication to children and young people across Scotland. The vision is to establish a high standard of practice in the adoption sector, ensuring a tailored approach to meet the needs of both the child and the adoptive family. She highlighted the importance of respecting the unique dual identity of adopted children and the necessity of ongoing therapeutic services throughout their lives, as mandated by the 2007 Adoption and Children (Scotland) Act.
In addition to facilitating the adoption of all suitable children, Kibble will focus on providing specialized support for children identified as ‘harder to place,’ such as large sibling groups, children with additional needs, and older children. This targeted approach aims to reduce waiting times for these children to find their permanent homes by recruiting suitable adopters who can meet their specific needs.
The launch of the adoption service aligns with Kibble’s commitment to early intervention and support, ensuring that each young person’s individual needs are met to provide them with a stable and promising future. By offering comprehensive support from initial inquiries to post-adoption care, Kibble’s new service aims to assist families in providing nurturing environments for vulnerable children in need of loving homes.
For those interested in adoption, Kibble’s new service promises full support throughout the adoption journey, contributing to transforming the lives of children, families, and communities. The charity’s holistic approach underscores its dedication to ensuring the well-being and success of both children in need of adoption and their adoptive families.
