Cruel parents ‘left toddler in closet with space heater at 43C until she died’

Cruel Parents Accused of Leaving Toddler in Closet with Space Heater, Leading to Tragic Death

The parents of a toddler from the US have been accused of a horrific act that resulted in the death of their daughter. Sintia Perez, 21, and Jace Hirschy, 23, from Indiana were arrested and charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in death, along with two counts each of neglect of a dependent. The couple allegedly left their two-year-old daughter in a closet with a space heater, causing temperatures in the room to soar between 85 and 109 degrees Fahrenheit, leading to the toddler’s tragic death from hyperthermia as confirmed by an autopsy report.

Local emergency services responded to a call at Swiss Meadows Apartments on November 27, 2024, where they found the young girl’s lifeless body in a closet. Shockingly, the home was described as filled with trash and cockroaches, with unsanitary conditions evident throughout. An officer discovered the toddler on a dirty mattress in the closet, dressed only in a nappy, with signs of neglect and distress in the room.

Perez confessed to police that she had placed the toddler in the closet around 7pm the night before, turned on a space heater and closed the door almost completely. Neither parent checked on the child until after 3pm the following day, finding her unresponsive. The couple’s other two children, aged five and three, were found infested with lice and were taken into custody by the Department of Child Services.

Perez and Hirschy are currently in custody at Adams County Jail, awaiting legal proceedings. A pretrial conference is scheduled for February 14, with a jury trial set for March 7, 2025. The tragic incident has sparked outrage and calls for justice for the innocent toddler who lost her life due to such neglect and cruelty.
