Perth Hosts Seminar on Knife Crime Amid Knife Angel Exhibition
A seminar focusing on knife crime and strategies to combat violence took place in Perth, coinciding with the city’s esteemed hosting of the Knife Angel statue, the first in Scotland. The event, which was held at the Perth Concert Hall, was organized following the recent installation of the 27-foot high Knife Angel sculpture crafted from 100,000 confiscated knives and bladed weapons. Known as the National Monument Against Violence and Aggression, the Knife Angel was crafted by the British Ironworks Centre and has been touring various locations in England and Wales since 2018. It is currently on display on King Edward Street, outside Perth Museum, until January.
The poignant Knife Angel has garnered praise from Kerry Burgess, the mother of Cammy Rae, a tragic victim of knife crime in Perth who lost his life after a stabbing incident in April 2023. Reflecting on the installation, Kerry Burgess expressed hope that the statue would draw the attention of individuals carrying knives, emphasizing the devastating consequences of such actions. Perth and Kinross school pupils are scheduled to visit the Knife Angel for educational projects related to violence and knife crime.
