Crime boss Jamie ‘Iceman’ Stevenson has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for his involvement in a £100 million plot to smuggle cocaine concealed in banana boxes. Stevenson, also known as “Iceman”, received his sentence at the High Court in Glasgow today. The 59-year-old pleaded guilty to charges related to the importation of class-A drugs, including directing a serious criminal offence of importing cocaine and participating in organized crime by producing and supplying etizolam, a substance commonly known as street Valium.
Stevenson’s guilty plea came in the midst of his trial, where he faced a total of 14 charges. While he admitted to some charges, including the significant role he played in the drug smuggling operation, he had other charges dropped after pleading not guilty. The National Crime Agency had issued an international appeal for Stevenson following the interception of a tonne of cocaine at the Port of Dover in 2020.
