JOHN MURDOCH’S DRIVE TIME: We reveal how Mazda’s new flagship SUV has been awarded a five-star safety rating

Mazda’s New Flagship SUV Awarded Five-Star Safety Rating

Mazda’s new flagship SUV, the CX-80, has recently been awarded a prestigious five-star safety rating in Euro NCAP tests. This new addition to the Mazda range is expected to hit UK roads in February, impressing evaluators with its adult and child safety features. The CX-80 also excelled in the Vulnerable Road Users category, scoring an impressive 84 per cent.

One standout feature of the CX-80 is its autonomous emergency braking system (AEB), which demonstrated excellent responses to pedestrians in front and behind the vehicle, as well as cyclists. The AEB system also includes protection against ‘dooring’, which occurs when a car door is suddenly opened in the path of a cyclist approaching from behind.

In addition to the Mazda CX-80, the new Subaru Forester also received a five-star safety rating, exceeding the required thresholds in all key assessment areas. With safety being a top priority for both Mazda and Subaru, these ratings highlight the commitment to protecting drivers, passengers, and vulnerable road users.

As festive celebrations kick off, road safety organisation GEM Motoring Assist urges all motorists to prioritise safety and avoid the risks associated with drink driving. With police forces launching seasonal drink-drive operations, it is crucial for drivers to plan ahead, whether by pre-booking a taxi, designating a sober driver, or arranging alternative transportation after a night out.

GEM supports calls for a reduction in the drink-drive limit, as research indicates that such a measure could save lives and prevent serious injuries. Despite a decrease in roads policing numbers and breathalyser tests, the dangers of drink driving remain prevalent. It is essential for all drivers to recognise the impact of alcohol on driving abilities and make responsible decisions to ensure road safety.

In conclusion, Mazda’s achievement in securing a five-star safety rating for the CX-80 underscores the brand’s dedication to vehicle safety and innovation. As the automotive industry continues to prioritise safety features, it is crucial for drivers to stay informed and vigilant on the road to protect themselves and others. Remember, safety should always come first, especially during the festive season and beyond.
