With winter in full swing and a plethora of illnesses circulating, a 15-minute flu-fighting workout has been shared by PureGym personal trainers to help strengthen the immune system. Research has indicated that incorporating just 15 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise into your daily routine can provide the necessary boost to combat illnesses. The workout is based on scientific studies showcasing that moderate exercise can enhance immune function by increasing natural killer cell activity, improving lymphocyte circulation, and reducing inflammation.
Previous research from PureGym highlighted that lack of time is a significant reason why people skip going to the gym. Thus, PureGym trainers like Claire Phippen and Alvin Walters have devised a simple yet effective workout that requires no equipment, making it accessible for everyone looking to support their immune system during winter. The workout includes a warm-up session lasting 4 minutes, followed by a full-body circuit for 8 minutes. Each exercise in the circuit is to be performed for 40 seconds with a 20-second rest in between, and the circuit can be repeated 2-3 times for optimal results.
Claire emphasises that aiming for three to five workout sessions per week with rest days in between can maximise the immune-boosting benefits. She also suggests adjusting the workout intensity if flu-like symptoms are present and prioritising ample rest, proper nutrition, and sleep for recovery. Taking into account the busy winter season filled with festivities and shorter daylight hours, it’s crucial to listen to your body and make necessary modifications to your workout routine to ensure overall well-being and immune system support.
