A hospital nurse was stabbed in the Accident & Emergency (A&E) department by a patient who was allegedly furious about the waiting time. The incident occurred at Royal Oldham Hospital in Greater Manchester on Saturday night around 11.30pm, leaving the nurse with severe injuries described as potentially “life changing,” and she is currently in critical condition. A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in connection to the attack.
Witnesses reported that the patient became agitated due to the waiting time at the hospital and it escalated into a violent altercation with the nurse. The Royal Oldham Hospital staff and patients were left shocked and distressed by the incident. Heather Caudle, chief nursing officer at Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust, expressed deep sadness over the attack, stating that their priority is to support the affected nurse and her family. The hospital continues to operate normally while cooperating with the police investigation.
Detective Sergeant Craig Roters from Greater Manchester Police’s Oldham district commented on the severity of the incident and assured the community of increased police presence for their safety.
