TUI Flight Attendant’s Outburst at Alleged Racism Towards Family Sparks Online Outrage
An incident on a TUI flight between London Gatwick and Lanzarote in December 2023 has gone viral after a flight attendant unleashed a furious rant at passengers who were allegedly being “racist” towards a British-Iranian family on board. The crew member sternly warned the passengers to cease their abusive behaviour, stating, âThis is a family flight. Everybody zip it, lock it, put it in your pocket. If I hear one more remark from anybody, I will be ringing the pilots, and they will be getting the police. I have had enough.â
According to reports, the targeted family, including a six-year-old niece, had switched from speaking English to Farsi for a moment when the abuse began. The passengers allegedly called them derogatory names, made threats, and even physically intimidated them. The family recorded the incident and shared it on TikTok, where it garnered attention and outrage online.
The family received a police escort to their hire car upon arrival, but encountered the abusive passengers again during a camel ride later in their trip, causing further distress. Even though TUI allowed the family to board their return flight early to avoid confrontation, the affected passenger expressed dissatisfaction with the airline’s response. TUI later apologized for the discomfort caused and promised a thorough investigation into the incident.
The TikTok user, who shared the video, criticised TUI’s offer of 5% compensation on her booking as inadequate, highlighting the emotional toll of the experience. The incident has sparked a conversation online about racism and passenger conduct on flights, with many expressing support for the affected family and condemning the behaviour displayed during the flight.
In conclusion, this incident serves as a reminder of the importance of mutual respect and tolerance, especially in diverse environments like international flights. It highlights the need for airlines to have clear protocols in place to address incidents of discrimination and abuse to ensure the safety and well-being of all passengers on board.
