Police Apprehend Eight Teens in Stolen Car After 22-Mile Pursuit
In a dramatic turn of events, police successfully intercepted a stolen vehicle and apprehended eight teenagers following a 22-mile chase spanning across Fife and Perthshire. The incident began when officers received a report of a car theft in the Cowdenbeath area around 2 am on Saturday. Subsequently, the stolen car was spotted in Kelty, near the initial report, but upon being signalled to stop by the authorities, the vehicle attempted to evade capture. A pursuit ensued, culminating in the car coming to a halt on Brandywell Road in Abernethy.
The situation escalated as the Police Scotland Dogs unit was summoned to assist in the operation. Two experienced K-9 handlers initiated a “pincer” movement and effectively tracked down the teenagers, who had fled into nearby woods. All eight individuals, ranging in age from 14 to 18 years old, were located and found to be unharmed. Among them, two 15-year-old male youths faced charges related to theft and road traffic offences, while the remaining six occupants were charged in connection with the theft incident.
The police commended the efforts of their canine unit, particularly highlighting the role of police dogs Stig and Xander in successfully locating the fleeing teenagers. A spokesperson for Police Scotland provided details of the events, underlining the collaborative efforts that led to the apprehension of the suspects.
