Stirling Pupils Witness Smoke Emanating from Bus on Troubled Route
Pupils from Stirling recently captured footage of smoke pouring out of a bus on the same route where a blaze occurred in 2022. The M4 bus route, which connects students from Aberfoyle, Gartmore, and neighbouring villages with McLaren High in Callander, has been facing significant challenges with reliability and punctuality. The incident in 2022 involved a double-decker bus from Carrs Loch Lomond bursting into flames near Port of Menteith. After this event, McGill’s took over the bus services through their Midland Bluebird network on behalf of Stirling Council.
Despite the change in bus operators, concerns have persisted regarding delays and unreliability on the M4 route. Parents and staff, including Rosie Brown, whose son was on the bus that caught fire in 2022, have expressed dissatisfaction with the service provided. Brown highlighted issues such as breakdowns, long waiting times in adverse weather conditions, and incomplete routes, leading to added stress for students relying on the bus service.
In response to the complaints, head teacher Marc Fleming of McLaren High School has raised concerns with council officials about the impact of late buses on students’ exam schedules. Stirling Council has acknowledged the issues raised and stated that they will investigate and take necessary actions to improve the service provided by the bus operators.
A spokesperson for Midland Bluebird expressed disappointment at the concerns raised about the M4 school service and assured that they are committed to delivering a high standard of service. They mentioned investments made to enhance service quality, including a dedicated fleet for school services. The company remains open to feedback and collaboration with stakeholders to ensure a reliable and satisfactory bus service for pupils, parents, and teachers on the M4 route.
