Comedian and “Miranda” star Sarah Hadland is set to grace the dance floor in this year’s edition of Strictly Come Dancing. The 53-year-old actor, known for her role as Stevie in the BBC sitcom, is among the 15 celebrities who will be competing on the popular BBC dancing competition.
Hadland’s participation in the 2024 run of Strictly Come Dancing was revealed on ITV’s Lorraine back in August, where she expressed her excitement about joining such an iconic show in its 20th year. The actor first gained recognition as part of the original cast of the CBBC sketch show Horrible Histories and for her performance as Stevie Sutton on Miranda alongside lead actress Miranda Hart.
Despite her success, Hadland confessed to initial doubts about getting along with Hart due to their different backgrounds. However, she later acknowledged their strong friendship and expressed interest in working together on another series, leaving the decision to Hart, who writes the show.
Growing up in Hertfordshire, Hadland discovered her passion for acting while attending a youth theatre during her time in Cheshire. After training at Laine Theatre Arts College in Epsom, Surrey, she began her on-screen career with a minor role in the political sitcom The Thick of It.
Beyond her acting credits, Hadland also boasts a background in dance, having trained in ballet from a young age and performing in West End musicals like Cats and Grease. Close friend and fellow actor Alex Kingston once playfully called out Hadland’s ballet training, joking about her advantage on Strictly Come Dancing.
In addition to her television work, Hadland has appeared in various productions such as Waterloo Road, That Mitchell and Webb Look, and the James Bond film Quantum of Solace. Off-screen, the actor maintains a fitness routine that includes running, inspired by her grandfather’s legacy as a reserve runner for the British Olympic team.
