Garth Brooks accused of sexual assault in lawsuit brought by former employee

Country music star Garth Brooks has been accused of sexual assault and battery in a lawsuit filed by a former employee who worked as a hairstylist and makeup artist for the singer. The accuser, identified only as “Jane Roe,” alleges that Brooks raped her in a hotel suite during a work trip in 2019.

Brooks, 62, who is one of country music’s most prominent figures, is facing serious allegations from the woman who initially worked on hair and makeup for his wife, Trisha Yearwood, in 1999 before transitioning to work directly for Brooks in 2017. The complaint, filed in a California state court on October 3, claims that the assault took place after the accuser and Brooks travelled to Los Angeles on his private jet in May 2019.

The lawsuit reveals that the accuser and Brooks were the only passengers on the jet to Los Angeles, and upon arrival at the hotel, she was shocked to find that there was only one bedroom in the suite, with no separate room for her. The woman alleges that Brooks proceeded to rape her during this trip and went on to physically grope her and make inappropriate comments about having a threesome with his wife on subsequent occasions.

In addition to the rape accusation, Brooks is also alleged to have exposed his genitals to the woman, shared sexual fantasies with her, and sent sexually explicit text messages. The Independent has reached out to Brooks’ representatives for comments on the matter. CNN reports that Brooks has previously denied the claims made by the accuser and tried to prevent her from going public with the allegations through a previous legal complaint filed anonymously as “John Doe.”

In response to these allegations, the attorneys representing the woman expressed their confidence that Brooks will be held accountable for his actions. They commended their client for her bravery in coming forward and filing the complaint against the country music star. The lawyers, Douglas H Wigdor, Jeanne M. Christensen, and Hayley Baker, highlighted that sexual misconduct exists across various industries, including country music, and declared their commitment to pursuing justice in this case.

The legal battle surrounding the accusations against Garth Brooks underscores the significance of addressing allegations of sexual assault and harassment in the entertainment industry, shining a spotlight on the need for accountability and justice in such cases.
