Rupert Everett recently shared his disappointment after revealing that he reached out to director Ridley Scott for a role in the much-anticipated Gladiator 2 film but to no avail. The 65-year-old actor, known for his roles in films like St Trinian’s and My Best Friend’s Wedding, spoke about the experience in his new book, titled The American No.
In a recent interview, Everett explained that after working with Ridley Scott on a project in 2023, he personally contacted the director to express his eagerness to be part of the Gladiator sequel. He recounted asking Scott, “Please, Ridley, can I be in Gladiator?” to which the director responded positively, saying, “OK, I’ll see what I can do.” Unfortunately, despite the initial enthusiasm, nothing transpired in terms of casting Everett in the film.
Optimistic about future opportunities, Everett mentioned that Scott is involved in another project, raising hope for a potential collaboration. While the actor did not get the chance to appear in Gladiator 2, the film boasts a star-studded cast including names like Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington, and Joseph Quinn.
Gladiator 2 picks up the story years after the events of the original film, exploring the character of Lucius, played by Mescal, as he navigates the Colosseum and battles against tyranny to restore balance in Rome. The movie, set to be released on 15th November, promises to delve into a gripping narrative revolving around power, revenge, and the destiny of an empire.
Even though Rupert Everett’s aspirations to join the Gladiator sequel did not come to fruition, the actor remains positive about future opportunities in the industry. With his talent and experience, it’s clear that Everett has much to offer on the big screen, and fans can anticipate seeing more of his work in the upcoming productions.
