Tyrrell Hatton Makes History Winning Alfred Dunhill Links Championship for the Third Time
Tyrrell Hatton made history by winning the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship for a record third time at St Andrews. Hatton’s remarkable victory saw him finish 24 under par, just one shot ahead of Belgium’s Nicolas Colsaerts. The final moments of the tournament were filled with tension as Colsaerts narrowly missed a crucial birdie putt on the 18th hole.
Hatton’s performance throughout the championship was nothing short of impressive, starting with an outstanding 61 on Saturday to equal the course record. His birdies on the second, fifth, 10th, and 11th holes gave him a comfortable lead, only to face a setback with a double bogey on the 13th and another dropped shot on the following hole.
In a post-match interview with Sky Sports, Hatton expressed his emotions, saying, “It feels good. It’s the first time I’ve actually won the tournament with my dad here so it means a lot, and to do it at the Home of Golf is really special. I’m trying not to cry to be honest. I’m a bit lost for words.”
The victory secures Hatton’s spot in the DP World Tour’s season-ending event in Dubai and allows him to attend the upcoming wedding of his Ryder Cup teammate, Matt Fitzpatrick. Hatton shared the added motivation he had to perform well in order to make it to the special occasion.
Colsaerts, who was also in contention for the title, expressed his pride in his performance despite falling short of the win. Reflecting on his game, Colsaerts acknowledged missed opportunities for birdies around the crucial turning point of the match.
In the team event, Denmark’s Thorbjorn Olesen and Irish businessman Dermot Desmond secured victory, finishing two shots ahead of Hatton and his father. The tournament concluded with a display of skill and sportsmanship from all the participants, leaving fans and critics impressed by the thrilling competition.
As Hatton celebrated his historic win, fans and golf enthusiasts alike were left in awe of the talent and determination displayed by the competitors throughout the championship. The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship will be remembered for the remarkable performances and intense moments on the iconic St Andrews course.
