Airdrie’s Tartan Army (WEBATA) recently celebrated its 25th anniversary with an evening of entertainment at the Tudor Hotel. The event saw 170 guests come together for a night of festivities. The evening kicked off with talented young piper Murryn Burns piping in the guests and delivering a beautiful rendition of Highland Cathedral, setting the tone for the celebration.
Founder member George Spittal made opening remarks and introduced Mitchell Gibb as the evening’s MC. The guests enjoyed a delicious meal before local comedian Patrick Rolink took the stage. Former Celtic FC defender Tosh McKinley also shared some words with the audience. A special presentation was made to founder member Scott Rae in recognition of his dedication to WEBATA over the years.
The evening continued with a ceilidh band led by John Carmichael and Alan Kitchen, keeping the dance floor lively. Wul Shanks shared the charitable donations WEBATA had made over the past 25 years, leading to a performance by Tartan Army stalwart Ted Christopher, who entertained the guests for the rest of the night.
A spokesperson for WEBATA expressed their gratitude towards 15-year-old Murryn Burns for her performances and musical talents. Murryn chose to donate the proceeds from her performance to St Andrew’s Hospice, a generous gesture that was well-received by all. The event was a resounding success, providing a perfect way to commemorate WEBATA’s 25th anniversary.
