These monikers range from bizarre to derogatory, reflecting his unique approach to branding his opponents. Trump’s usage of nicknames has been a consistent feature of his political persona, employed both during his presidency and beyond.
One of Trump’s targets was Kamala Harris, the former Vice President. He dubbed her “Kamabla,” a distorted version of her name. Trump claimed that “Kamabla” represented the alleged failures of the Biden-Harris administration. Similarly, Joe Biden was referred to as “Joe Hiden’,” with Trump criticising his mask-wearing during the Covid-19 pandemic and accusing him of hiding in his basement.
Hillary Clinton, Trump’s opponent in the 2016 Presidential election, was not spared from his nickname game. After previously labelling her as “Crooked” and “Crazy,” Trump surprised many by affectionately calling her “Beautiful.” This change in tone was explained by Trump’s desire to reserve the “Crooked” epithet for Joe Biden.
Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida found himself dubbed as “Ron DeSanctimonious” by Trump, signalling a shift from ally to foe. Another target was Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota, who Trump ridiculed as “Tampon Tim,” in reference to a bill on menstrual product access in schools. Trump’s nicknaming extended to individuals like Senator Jacky Rosen, dubbed “Wacky Jacky,” and Governor Gavin Newsom of California, branded as “Governor Newscum.”
Even internationally, Trump did not hold back, christening North Korean leader Kim Jong-un as “Little Rocket Man,” a nickname that received mixed reactions. Trump’s penchant for nicknaming extended throughout his political career, showcasing his unorthodox and often controversial communication style.
