A cutting-edge indoor go-karting track is set to open in XSite Braehead, taking over the former Snow Factor site and creating around 80 jobs. K1 Speed, the company behind the initiative, plans to introduce the world’s longest indoor karting track, offering a new level of excitement to the Renfrew leisure facility. With a substantial £5.5 million investment, the state-of-the-art facility will span over 90,000 sq. ft across three floors.
The indoor go-karting attraction will feature high-speed electric karting experiences alongside a cutting-edge e-sports lounge. The facility will house advanced racing simulators and premium gaming technology, catering to both casual racers and serious competitors. The karts, valued at £15,000 each, are touted as the most advanced in the world, capable of reaching speeds up to 40mph. The track itself stretches over 1,000 metres, accommodating 35 high-performance karts racing simultaneously, making it the world’s longest karting facility.
In addition to providing an exhilarating karting experience, the e-sports lounge will offer visitors a dynamic and engaging environment. The venture is expected to generate roughly 80 job opportunities, contributing to the local economy and leisure sector. Matt Holyfield, the managing director of K1 Speed UK, expressed excitement about delivering a top-tier entertainment experience that prioritises innovation, safety, and fun. The choice of XSite Braehead was influenced by its vibrant community and strong motor-sport culture.
The decision to transform the Snow Factor site into a cutting-edge karting facility came after the ski slope closed in 2022 due to financial and safety reasons. Planning permission was granted earlier this year for the development of the karting track, bar/restaurant, and e-sports area. K1 Speed operates globally with 100 locations worldwide, and the Braehead venue will mark a significant addition to its portfolio.
Kitty Vaughan, head of UK leisure and F&B at Pradera Lateral, XSite’s asset management team, expressed enthusiasm about welcoming K1 Speed to XSite Braehead. The collaboration aims to enhance the leisure offerings at the venue and provide inclusive and engaging experiences for visitors. The opening of the flagship karting track and e-sports venue is anticipated to have a positive impact on Glasgow and the surrounding areas, catering to motorsport enthusiasts and thrill-seekers alike.
In conclusion, the forthcoming indoor go-karting track at XSite Braehead represents a significant investment in the leisure industry, promising a world-class entertainment experience for individuals of all ages and skill levels. This new addition is poised to become a prominent attraction in the region, offering a unique blend of high-speed karting adventures and cutting-edge e-sports entertainment in a vibrant and engaging environment.
