Liverpool suffer Federico Chiesa injury blow – but another forward set to return

Liverpool dealt a blow as Federico Chiesa sustains injury, but another forward set to return.

Liverpool forward Federico Chiesa has been hit with an injury setback, causing him to miss his first Champions League night at Anfield and potentially keeping him out until the international break. The Italian player has a muscular issue that will see him sidelined for the upcoming match against Bologna and puts his availability for the trip to Crystal Palace in doubt.

Manager Arne Slot expressed his disappointment for Chiesa, who was signed for £10m from Juventus in the summer, missing out on facing a team from his home country. On a more positive note, striker Diogo Jota, who also skipped training, is expected to be fit to take on Bologna.

Slot stated, “Diogo missed two sessions after the game against Wolves. He took a knock but I am expecting him to be with us and available to play. Federico trained yesterday [Monday] and came in today with some problems and I am not expecting him to be available.”

While Chiesa has only made three appearances for Liverpool, teammate Alexis Mac Allister has confidence in his impact. Mac Allister remarked, “From the day he arrived, you could see how happy he is to be here, and that is already a very important thing. He is showing how good he is. We expect a lot from him, he will be very important for us, and I am pretty sure he is going to do well here.”

Chiesa’s absence will be felt, especially in the anticipated Champions League fixture at Anfield, but Liverpool fans can look forward to the return of Jota and the continued progress of Chiesa as he recovers from his injury setback.
