R Kelly’s daughter to share ‘heartbreaking secret’ about disgraced father in new documentary

R Kelly’s Daughter to Open Up About Father in New Documentary

In a new documentary titled “R Kelly’s Karma: A Daughter’s Journey,” Joanne Kelly, the daughter of disgraced singer R Kelly, is set to reveal a “heartbreaking secret” about her father. The documentary, produced by Tvei Network, will feature raw and emotional interviews with Joanne, her siblings Jaah Kelly and Robert Kelly Jr, as well as their mother Drea Kelly. Drea was married to R Kelly from 1996 to 2009.

The official trailer for the documentary, released on September 29, shows Joanne, 26, expressing her feelings about her father’s actions, stating, “Nobody wants to be the child of the father that is out here hurting women and children.” She tearfully adds, “He was my everything.” The logline for the film promises that Joanne will bravely share her untold story, shedding light on a secret that shattered her childhood.

Joanne reflects on her disbelief at her father’s actions, expressing, “For a long time, I didn’t even want to believe that it happened. I didn’t know that, even if he was a bad person, that he would do something to me.” Drea also weighs in, expressing her disappointment in R Kelly’s lack of effort as a father, saying, “Just because you’re not a good husband doesn’t mean you can’t be a good father – and the fact that he doesn’t even try.”

R Kelly, known for hits like “Ignition – Remix,” was sentenced to 30 years in prison in 2022 after being found guilty of racketeering and sex trafficking charges in New York. A year later, a Chicago jury convicted him of illegal sexual activity and producing pornography involving a minor, resulting in an additional 20-year sentence to be served concurrently with the first.

Currently imprisoned at FCI Butner Medium I in North Carolina, R Kelly recently attempted to appeal his sentence, arguing that older statutes of limitations should have applied to his cases. However, his appeal was rejected by state prosecutors, upholding his 20-year prison term.

“R Kelly’s Karma: A Daughter’s Journey” is set to be released on October 11, offering viewers a deeper insight into the personal struggles faced by the singer’s own family members.
