F1 agrees stunning $1billion deal and big change to future podiums

Formula 1 has reached a groundbreaking agreement with luxury goods conglomerate LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy), marking a significant investment of approximately $1 billion into the sport over the next decade. LVMH, the owner of esteemed luxury brands such as Moet & Chandon champagne, is set to introduce their products onto the prestigious podium, replacing Italian sparkling wine Ferrari Trento, when the partnership commences next year.

Louis Vuitton will supply the cases for the race trophies, while watch brand Tag Heuer, known for its deals with Red Bull and the Monaco Grand Prix, will take over from Rolex as the official timekeeper of Formula 1. The involvement of LVMH in the sport is believed to be influenced by the shifting demographic of Formula 1, with a younger audience engrossed in the sport’s global popularity surge inspired by content such as the Netflix series, along with the sport’s expansion in America with three races scheduled annually.

Reportedly valued at around £76 million ($100 million) per season, the deal with LVMH signifies a major financial injection into Formula 1. Stefano Domenicali, the CEO of Formula 1, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration, highlighting how both entities are united in their pursuit of excellence. He commended the partnership as a historic milestone that will enhance the fan experience and honour the legacy of the sport.

Bernard Arnault, the CEO of LVMH Group, underscored the shared values of passion for innovation and commitment to excellence that underpin both Formula 1 and the activities of the LVMH Maisons. He emphasised the importance of attention to detail in achieving success, drawing parallels between the worlds of motorsport and fashion, watchmaking, and wines and spirits within the LVMH portfolio. Arnault affirmed that the collaboration signifies a mutual dedication to pushing boundaries and embracing continuous evolution.

The agreement between Formula 1 and LVMH signifies a significant move towards elevating the sport’s image and global appeal, emphasising a commitment to excellence and innovation that resonate with both entities. Fans can anticipate an enhanced experience with the introduction of luxury brands onto the podium, symbolising a new chapter in Formula 1’s prestigious history.
