Scots Ryanair travellers ‘trapped in Tirana’ after being ‘abandoned’ by travel firm for 36 hours

Hundreds of Ryanair passengers found themselves in a difficult situation in Tirana on October 4 when their 10.55am flight to Edinburgh Airport was delayed multiple times, reportedly up to seven times. The 180 passengers were informed of a new estimated departure time of around 11.35pm on October 5, over 24 hours later. Passengers described feeling stranded with no Ryanair staff available for assistance at the airport.

After waiting at the gate for about 10 hours, passengers were eventually guided out of the airport, back through passport control and security, and into the car park, where buses and coaches were arranged to transport them to a hotel for the night. However, some customers claimed they stopped receiving updates regarding the flight schedule.

Courtney Cook, 43, expressed her frustration, mentioning the multiple delays the flight faced, culminating in a departure time of 10:15am the next day. She highlighted the lack of clear communication from Ryanair, which led to confusion and uncertainty among passengers. Courtney, holidaying with her husband Ryan, described the ordeal as a nightmare, feeling abandoned without proper guidance on how and when they would get to the airport.

Similarly, Fiona Gomes, 63, from Fairmilehead, shared her distress, stating she has never experienced such a situation in her extensive travels. She described a sense of desperation and frustration among the passengers, with the flight disappearing from the board, leaving uncertainty about the journey home. Both passengers expressed their disappointment with the handling of the situation, with Fiona declaring she would never fly with Ryanair again.

According to Tirana Airport, flight RK8295A has been rescheduled, and customers are advised to contact the airline for further instructions. Ryanair later informed passengers of a new estimated departure time of 11.45pm, as efforts were made to minimize the delay. Passengers shared updates they received, detailing the continuous changes in departure times.

As the situation continued to unfold, passengers expressed their concerns and dissatisfaction with the lack of communication and transparency from Ryanair, leaving many feeling abandoned and unsure about their journey back home. Efforts to resolve the delays were ongoing, but the experience had already left a lasting impact on the affected travellers.

The passengers stranded in Tirana faced a challenging ordeal as they awaited updates and guidance from the airline. Despite the efforts to alleviate the situation, the lack of clear communication and uncertainty surrounding the flight departure further exacerbated the frustration and disappointment felt by the stranded travellers. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of effective communication and support in managing unexpected travel disruptions to ensure passengers’ well-being and peace of mind during challenging circumstances.
