Comedian Chris McCausland stole the show with a Wayne’s World-inspired performance alongside his professional partner Dianne Buswell as they kicked off Strictly Come Dancing’s Movie Week. The 47-year-old and Buswell paid tribute to the iconic movie duo, earning high praise from judge Craig Revel-Horwood for their “packed full of fantastic rhythm” routine. Revel-Horwood acknowledged their strong performance but critiqued it as slightly heavy for his liking.
In contrast, singer Toyah Willcox and Neil Jones performed a samba to Poor Unfortunate Souls from The Little Mermaid, scoring a low 15 points. Revel-Horwood commented on Willcox’s performance, mentioning that she seemed “stuck in the mud” and flat-footed, although he appreciated her attitude and character. An unexpected moment occurred during Willcox’s critique when her husband, King Crimson guitarist Robert Fripp, heckled Revel-Horwood as he reviewed her octopus-themed routine, a creature that Willcox later revealed her husband fears.
Olympian Montell Douglas and Johannes Radebe presented a tango to One Night Only from Dreamgirls, impressively securing a score of 28 from all judges. However, DIY SOS presenter Nick Knowles and his partner Luba Mushtuk were unable to perform their planned Charleston to Rain On The Roof from Paddington 2 as Knowles had to withdraw due to a knee injury sustained during rehearsals on Friday.
Host Claudia Winkleman conveyed her well wishes to Knowles at the start of the episode, expressing hopes for his speedy recovery. The presenter confirmed that Knowles would progress to the next round of the competition, given his unfortunate injury. Knowles had previously revealed he had injured his arm and shoulder but had been cleared to perform the previous weekend.
