A taxi driver and three women are currently hospitalised following a distressing crash that occurred outside Glasgow Central. The incident took place on Union Street at its junction with Gordon Street at approximately 1:50 pm today. Emergency services, including police cars, ambulances and firefighters, swiftly responded to the scene.
The 62-year-old male taxi driver and two women aged 60 and 61 were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, while another female passenger, aged 61, was transported to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary. Thankfully, a 50-year-old woman who was also involved in the crash received medical assessment at the scene and later departed.
Eyewitnesses described the shocking event as the taxi veered onto the pavement at a set of traffic lights, with the vehicle coming to a halt at the corner of a Tesco Express store on Gordon Street. The area was promptly cordoned off by emergency crews, and a police investigation into the incident ensued.
Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the crash or has footage of the occurrence to come forward to assist in the investigation. Sergeant Christopher Hoggans from Road Policing emphasised the ongoing efforts to determine the exact circumstances of the collision and appealed for cooperation from the public.
