Shocking new dashcam footage has surfaced, revealing the heart-stopping moment a massive heavy goods vehicle (HGV) plunged 60ft off a motorway bridge. The distressing incident occurred on the M6 near Warrington, Cheshire, as captured in the video footage. The lorry smashed through the Armco barriers before crashing down onto the scrubland below this past Monday.
The driver, a 56-year-old individual, was quickly rushed to the hospital after the accident occurred between junctions 20 and 21 on the Thelwall Viaduct around 6:50 pm amid severe weather conditions. Despite the gravity of the fall, the driver remarkably escaped life-threatening injuries and is anticipated to be discharged soon. Post-accident images depict the extensive damage to the vehicle, highlighting the incredible fortune of the driver to survive such a potentially fatal drop.
Cheshire Police have disclosed that investigations into the crash are still ongoing, which initially necessitated road closures but have now been lifted. Inspector Anton Sullivan commended the swift response to the incident, acknowledging the challenging conditions posed by poor visibility and heavy rain. He remarked on the astonishingly minor injuries sustained by the HGV driver and the fortunate escape of other road users.
Recovery efforts following the accident were impeded by adverse weather conditions and the difficult terrain where the lorry landed. Authorities worked tirelessly throughout the day in collaboration with Highways and specialist recovery teams to salvage the destroyed vehicle and trailer.
