Netflix Star Secures DC Superhero Role Following Fan Campaign

British actor Aaron Pierre has been cast in the upcoming HBO series “Lanterns” by Warner Bros, as announced on Wednesday. The show, based on the DC comics, will focus on new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan as they delve into a dark, earth-bound mystery involving a murder in the American heartland.

Pierre will be portraying John Stewart, while the role of Hal Jordan is still up for grabs, though reports suggest Kyle Chandler is being considered. This casting news comes on the heels of Pierre’s recent success in Netflix’s “Rebel Ridge,” where he captivated audiences with his performance as a former Marine embroiled in a small town’s corruption.

Viewers were quick to praise Pierre on social media after the premiere of “Rebel Ridge,” with many noting his undeniable charisma and commanding presence on screen. Born in London in 1994, Pierre has steadily built up his acting credits since his debut in 2017.

In addition to his work on “Lanterns” and “Rebel Ridge,” Pierre has appeared in various TV shows and films, showcasing his versatility as an actor. His upcoming projects include voicing the lead in “Mufasa: The Lion King” and an appearance in M. Night Shyamalan’s “Old” (2021).

“Lanterns” is being developed by a talented team including Chris Mundy from “Ozark,” Damon Lindelof from “Watchmen,” and comic book writer Tom King. The Co-Chairmen and Co-CEOs of DC Studios, James Gunn and Peter Safran, expressed their excitement for the series, highlighting the rich characters of John Stewart and Hal Jordan.

This latest Green Lantern adaptation aims to redeem the character from the notorious 2011 film featuring Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, which was met with criticism and poor box office performance. Reynolds himself has openly discussed his disappointment with the film’s reception, emphasizing the challenge of processing such a setback in his career.

As the entertainment industry gears up for the release of “Lanterns” and Aaron Pierre’s portrayal of John Stewart, fans are eager to see how this fresh take on the DC superhero duo will unfold on screen.
