Conor McGregor has expressed his desire to still face off against Michael Chandler, despite the American fighter opting to move on to accept a new opponent after their bout faced numerous delays.
The McGregor vs Chandler fight was initially announced in February 2023 but encountered several setbacks, culminating in McGregor sustaining a broken toe in June. This setback prompted Chandler to seek a new opponent, and he will now be squaring off against Charles Oliveira in November, three years after his previous defeat to the Brazilian.
Although Chandler hinted at the possibility of a showdown with McGregor in 2025, many fans had anticipated that McGregor might ignore the challenge. Contrary to expectations, McGregor has indicated his willingness to take on Chandler. In an interview with The Schmoon on Wednesday, McGregor revealed, “We’re looking for the date. Hopefully, I’d like to square it away with Michael Chandler. I’d like to get Chandler in. We’ve had our beef, it’s not settled.”
McGregor, aged 36, has not fought since July 2021 when he suffered a broken leg in a match against Dustin Poirier. McGregor marked this loss as a No Contest, highlighting that their rivalry stands at “1-1-1”. He also referenced his fights with Nate Diaz in 2016, stating, “The Dustin one is not settled, it’s 1-1-1. And the Diaz one is also 1-1.”
Looking ahead, McGregor is eager to lock in upcoming fights and continue his journey in the UFC. Despite the challenges and setbacks he has faced in recent matches, McGregor remains determined and focused on his future in the ring.
