A violent offender, Chef Dragos Henter, who was deported to Romania, has been discovered back in Dundee just 17 days after being thrown out of the country. Henter, 32, was jailed for 32 months last year after threatening to slice a woman’s face to resemble The Joker from the Batman films. His sentence resulted from a four-year campaign of harassment against a partner, during which he was found in possession of illicit SIM cards while in jail.
Deemed a danger to the public, Henter was deported to Romania on August 21 after serving his prison time. However, by September 7, he had managed to illegally return to the UK and was caught by officers driving intoxicated in Dundee late at night. Despite providing a false name, further checks revealed his illegal re-entry into Scotland.
Henter admitted to knowingly breaching the deportation order by entering the UK through unknown means during a court appearance last month. Sources close to the case revealed that Henter claimed to have spent around £10,000 to smuggle himself back into the UK to reunite with his wife and children. He expressed intentions of repeatedly returning to Scotland each time he was deported to Romania.
With a history of prior convictions including domestic assaults, bullying, coercive control, prison breaches, and possession of offensive weapons, Henter was described as posing a danger by Sheriff Alastair Carmichael. During a disturbing incident, he threatened his partner with a kitchen knife, exhibited controlling behavior, and instilled fear in her, culminating in his Joker-like threat.
Despite his latest jail sentence for the immigration offence, Henter remains intent on returning to the UK whenever deported. The case highlights the challenges in managing individuals with violent tendencies and underscores the need for robust border control measures to safeguard the public from such repeat offenders.
