A Palestinian student was tragically killed in his tent at a hospital in Gaza when an Israeli strike caused a devastating inferno. Shaban al-Dalu, a 19-year-old university student, had survived an Israeli strike on a mosque a week earlier but succumbed to a new strike on the courtyard of a central Gaza hospital where his family sought shelter.
The strike resulted in the deaths of Shaban and his 38-year-old mother, Alaa al-Dalu, along with three other individuals as a fire tore through a tent camp sheltering numerous Palestinian families at the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah. Many others, including children, suffered severe burns in the tragic incident.
Al-Dalu and his family were sleeping in the tent when the strike hit around 1:30 a.m. His father managed to rescue some of his children but was unable to save his wife and eldest son, Shaban. The Israeli military claimed the strike targeted militants among the displaced population but provided no evidence to support this assertion.
This attack marked the seventh time the hospital compound had been struck by Israeli forces since March, according to Doctors Without Borders.
