Longhorns fans petition to keep Ted Cruz away from big football game, fearing his ‘sports curse’

Longhorns fans have started a petition to bar Ted Cruz from attending their football games due to fears of his ‘sports curse’. The petition claims that the Texas senator is synonymous with bad luck and has a sinister energy that has allegedly hindered the Longhorns from reaching the NCAA football championship in the past.

The online petition asserts that they cannot afford to take the risk of having Ted Cruz present at their games again. It states that the fans, known for their passion and loyalty, refuse to let an outsider like Cruz, who did not attend the University of Texas and allegedly switches allegiances for popularity, spoil the Texas Longhorn sports experience.

The petition, hosted on change.org, aims to ensure that Ted Cruz is permanently banned from all Texas Longhorn sporting events and has already amassed nearly 1,500 signatures since its inception on September 29. Supporters urge the avoidance of a potential Cruz curse, expressing their deep attachment to the cause and highlighting the impact of his purported bad luck on Texas sports teams.

The superstition surrounding the ‘Ted Cruz curse’ gained traction following recent game losses by Texas-based teams when Cruz was in attendance. Most notably, the Houston Astros ALDS defeat to the Detroit Tigers and the Longhorns’ college football playoff loss to the Washington Huskies have fuelled the belief in the curse.

Colin Allred, Cruz’s opponent in the upcoming Senate election, even featured the alleged ‘#CruzCurse’ in a political advertisement. As the Longhorns prepare to face off against Georgia in a crucial match, fans are adamant about keeping Cruz away from the game to enhance their chances of success.

Ted Cruz, no stranger to controversy, faced criticism for his infamous trip to Cancun during a severe winter storm in February 2021. The scandal tarnished his image, earning him the moniker ‘Cancún Cruz’. Additionally, he has a history of contentious relationships, including a turbulent exchange with former President Donald Trump during the 2016 Republican presidential primaries.

Efforts to reach Ted Cruz for comment on the petition have been made by The Independent. The petition to prevent him from attending Texas Longhorn sporting events continues to gain momentum, reflecting the fans’ determination to break free from the alleged curse and secure victories for their beloved team.
