A batch of spice products has been recalled due to concerns about potential peanut traces not listed on the packaging. The Food Standards Authority (FSA) has identified over 20 products manufactured by FGS Ingredients Ltd that may contain peanuts.
The recalled items encompass a variety of dips, curry powders, and seasonings sold under different brand names at several retail outlets. Consumers are urged to return these products for a full refund as a precautionary measure. The FSA has issued point of sale notices at the relevant stores to inform customers about the recall and provide guidance on returning the items.
Included in the list are products like Domino’s BBQ Dip, curry powders, and seasonings under the Favourit and Dunnes Store labels, as well as certain sausages and burgers from Westmorland Family Butchery. This recall follows a previous incident involving undisclosed nuts in FGS Ingredients Ltd’s mustard products.
FGS Ingredients Ltd, based in Leicester, conducted additional testing on its ingredients to ensure the absence of peanut content or residue. Despite this, customers are advised to be cautious, especially those with a peanut allergy, and avoid consuming products containing mustard until the specific affected products are identified.
Darren Whitby, head of incidents at the FSA, emphasised the need for vigilance among individuals with peanut allergies, suggesting thorough label checks when purchasing food items and inquiries about mustard content when dining out. Mustard-infused products suspected of having peanut traces include dips, sauces, salads, and pre-packaged sandwiches.
The FSA has issued this advice proactively to keep those with peanut allergies informed of any potential risks and enable them to take necessary precautions. It is crucial for consumers, particularly those with allergies, to stay updated on product recalls and follow guidelines to ensure their safety.
